The BBC Sound of 2012, Michael Kiwanuka definitely deserves his title. With a soothing folk style, influenced by Otis Redding and Bob Dylan, he started as a session guitarist working with Labrinth.
Michael has already performed on Jools Holland's Later show and accompanied Adele on her 2011 tour.
The Sound of 2012, now in its 10th year, was compiled by top UK music critics, industry experts and bloggers. Previous winners have included Jessie J, Adele, Keane and Corinne Bailey Rae. Michael beat US singer Frank Ocean, New York rapper Azealia Banks, DJ Skrillex and Swedish duo Niki and the Dove to the top spot.
